Ojiya_Twice A Week

lunch: miso mackerel & fried chicken combo $11.80

It was raining this morning and a big rain storm were approaching to LA area. My fridge was empty and I didn’t want to go out for lunch and get wet, so I was going to have cup noodle in my drawer.

However, it was getting sunny around noon. I knew I would be miserable to have only a cup noodle, then decided to grab a better one. Somehow, Ojiya’s lunch is very appealing to me. This combo is pretty good, but I like the one I had last time.

For dinner, I had a small savory pastry because of a huge lunch.

breakfast: banana, strawberry, blueberry and vegan muffin

Yookgejang Kalguksu

lunch: Yookgejang Kalguksu $14.00 including tax & tip

I like their version of Yookgejang because it is milder and lighter than others I have had. I usually suffer from spiciness and my mouth would be burning at other places (I kinda enjoy it though). Kalguksu fills me up so much and so long till evening, so I had only kale salad and a little bit of humus.

dinner: Grilled Salmon with pita, humus, salad and rice $11.95
We tried out a mediterranean place my friend recommended. He had combo kabob plate ($14.95), but total bill came out with only $14 because we got a $15 certificate from I was skeptical if they would accept the certificate. No problem!

Everything tastes fresh and delicious here. We like the place is so vibrant too.

I ate so much pita before salmon served, so I brought back most of salmon and rice in the box.

Asa ramen

I felt like ramen from this morning. So I went to Men Oh, a new ramen place for lunch next to Nijiya. BUT, it was closed on Mondays. So I headed to Asa Ramen a few blocks away.

lunch special: shio ramen, gyoza and fried rice $9.00
It was fairly good and generous portion. However, I felt sick in stomach afterwards. Maybe too much pork and grease after less meat diet?

The Bazaar by José Andrés

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful dinner at The Bazaar located in SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Chef José Andrés is originally from Spain and the restaurant is specialized in Spanish tapas, extraordinary tapas!

I started with “A Trip of Spain, Blanco.” Albariño got woody aroma, Verdejo is very fruity and Tempranillo Blanco is honey-scented. I truly enjoyed these three different wines.

Because of a huge menu with so many tapas dishes, we basically ordered “must-have” items the server suggested.

Not your everyday caprésé, cherry tomatoes & liquid mozzarella $13.00
This is a fun dish. Liquid mozzarella bursts in your mouth. Basil sauce is mild and tasty too.

Carlsbad Farm Luna oysters lemon, black pepper $12.00
Oysters and wine always make me happy.

Your life will change dashi linguini, parmesan, quail egg, basil $11.00
This is an interesting one. It reminds me of Japanese tokoroten. Very creative!

Roasted Iberico pork cheek $18.00
We instantly picked from Today’s special.

“Philly cheesesteak” air bread, cheddar, wagyu beef $9.00/piece
It is amazingly delicious! This is a true “must-have.”

Wild mushroom rice, Idiazábal cheese $12.00
It is simply tasty.

Baby Japanese peaches, Di Stefano burrata, hazelnuts, arugula $18.00
What is baby japanese peach? I never heard of it, but it is so good. I love the combination of sweetness from hazelnut sauce and saltiness from cheese. It could be a perfect dessert too.

Nitro Coconut Floating Island, Passion fruit and vanilla $12.00 + No Signal, Organic Herbal Tropical Rooibos Tea $9.00

Mille Crepe $7.50-8.00

We swung by a little pastry shop on 3rd st. during day and had their signature mille crepe and coffee. Honestly, it is good, but not that great. Since we don’t see this type of pastry much here, I appreciate it though.

Brunch in Studio City

I visited my friend’s new place in Studio City. She wanted to show me the neighborhood and we walked in a big circle along Ventura Blvd. and Tujunga Ave. for about 3 miles. It was fun and nice exercise too.

There are so many restaurants especially a lot of sushi bars on Ventura Blvd. Sugarfish by Nozawa is there too.

We decided to have brunch at this Italian place. Peach Bellini was must to celebrate a beautiful day.

my choice: warm vegetables salad with salmon $20.50

her choice: quinoa bowl $10.50

We picked them as the server recommended. It was just tasty. I love my salad so much. I feel so healthy now. We enjoyed great conversation as well as live music.
