Cold Noodle and Frozen Yogurt for a Hot Day

It was hotter than 90 degree today. Hoo!

I was supposed to meet my friend for lunch at Oumi Sasaya, a udon noodle place, but they were temporarily closed for vacation. So we went Eboshi Ramen instead.

Tsuke-men $9.75
I love hot noodle soup, any kind. Today was an exception. It was too hot to take any hot ramen, so I ordered Tsuke-men. It is supposed that noodle is cold and soup is hot. I can’t believe that they just separate every element of hiyashichuuka (cold noodle), which is not Tsuke-men at all. I am totally upset, but a main purpose is a get-together with a friend and I just let it go. So disappointing, anyway.

My husband fixed one of his cooking repertories, Okonomiyaki! Yay! How nice someone cooks for me.

Since it was still very hot in the evening, we went to get a cold dessert.

Because we have collected 10 punches on the loyalty card, this was free. Yay!!

Thai Lai Restaurant

My lunch buddy took us to a new place today.

We ordered Bánh bèo chén as appetizer and egg noodle soup with fried shrimp wonton.

IMG_5165
Bánh bèo chén, rice flour cake with shrimp paste and pork (5 chén) $5.00
It comes with five little plates with colorful shrimp, which excited me so much. It is to eat simply with fish sauce. Very nice!

Hủ Tiếu, egg noodle soup with fried shrimp wonton, shrimp, squid, pork, chicken, fish cake and imitation crab $7.50
I love this clear broth. It is better than a Japanese ramen. Very light but flavorful. They amazingly offer a lot of toppings.

Cooking Class

Italian Cooking Class – April 2014

Today, we learned how to make a hand made pasta for lasagna.

IMG_5157
antipasto: insalata di pollo profumata al tartufo, baby lettuce, chicken, truffle oil
This is nicely but simply seasoned with rich truffle oil, EVOO, salt and pepper. It would be a weekend brunch menu with a glass of mimosa or something.

IMG_5158
lasagna with pesto Genovese & Béchamel sauce
Believe it or not, this is a lasagna. I’ve never seen anything like this before. The instructor, who learned and worked in Italy says lasagna pasta is better to be thin like paper. Genovese and Béchamel are a perfect match too.

IMG_5159
lasagna with meat & Béchamel sauce
This is more like one we have in US. It is lighter and more sophisticated because of thin pasta and authentic cheese such as fresh mozzarella & Parmigiano-Reggiano.

IMG_5161
dolce: gelatina de moscato d’Asti con le fragile, moscato wine jelly with strawberry
I got a bit drunk after since it is made out of real wine, but very tasty!

These are high graded Italian and Spanish wines sold by Trader Joe’s for actually less expensive than in Italy and Spain, she explains.

These are how to make fresh pasta at home.

A Wonderful Mediterranean Restaurant

OMG. We fell in love with this place. This was our second visit. Initially, Restaurant.com certificate brought us here. Nearly a year before that my friend actually recommended it as well. We truly enjoyed everything here at the first time. Today, we confirm that it is one of our favorites in LA.

beef stake kebab $11.95

I love literally everything on the plate.

IMG_5123
I don’t know what this is called. They serve great pita bread with this sauce. We asked for another basket of pita for hummus.

It is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring food to your table. However, they treat customers very well with smile. A young girl working at the cashier today was so cute!

IMG_5130
knaafa $3.40 & vaklava $2.00

We decided to try some dessert too. Vaklava has earthy flavor with pistachio. I really don’t know what knaafa is, but it is like cheese cake for me.

I want to try chicken shawarma and lamb chop next time.

Disappointing Tan Tan Men

We usually go out for dinner on Friday night, but I feel like staying home and enjoying a comfortable dinner.

Most of ramen kit sold at supermarkets tastes as good as one at a ramen restaurant. However, this noodle is too sticky, chewy and floury 😦

Mmmmm, I will never buy this again.

Soda Xi Muoi

I was introduced with a Vietnamese drink, Soda Xi Muoi today. Xi Muoi is a preserved plum just like Japanese umeboshi. I love it tastes both sour and sweet.
