Dine LA Lunch @ Connie & Ted’s

While I was sick, Dine LA started and ends tomorrow. Hurry, let’s go!

My girlfriend and I chose Connie & Ted’s in West Hollywood. This restaurant is owned and run by my favorite restauranteurs, Chef Michael Cimarusti & Maitre d’ Donato Poto.

I’ve been there only once for my birthday in 2013. They offer a really great deal for Dine LA. So…why not!?

Beautifully printed menu

Dine LA menu ($25) offers everything I want.

First course: Jo’s Wicked Good Chowda’ Sampler, New England, Manhattan, Rhode Island Clear

It’s the first time for me to have Rhode Island chowder. All three are so different, but all flavorful. Different kind and cut of potatoes are used for each chowder.

Second course: Fried Pacific Oyster Sandwich, cole slaw, spicy mayo

I was debating between clam and oyster till last minute. Oyster wins. It was funny that our server says, “I don’t recommend the burger. That’s just for someone who can’t enjoy seafood, but this is a seafood restaurant.” Of course. My friend picked Cod Sandwich.

Oyster is so crispy and creamy 🙂

Although the sandwich tastes amazing, fries is a way too salty for me.

Dessert: Pomegranate sorbe

Suddenly, an incident happened. My friend found something in her chocolate ice cream. Mmmm, it was a piece of plastic. Oh no, it can’t be happening here! We told the server and he brought a new one.

When we almost forgot about it, it did happen again. Another piece was in there! I can’t believe it’s happening at my favorite chef’s restaurant. So disappointing!!!

The manager came out and apologized. They deducted one whole meal ($25) from the bill. He greeted us at the door and said, “We hope you will come back.” In mind, I replied, “I am not sure…”

I am too shocked to get over it yet.

Bachi Burger on Sawtelle

My friend’s husband was going to be the manager here, but he quit during training that was about a year ago. We had been waiting for its opening. Since he quit, we don’t talk about Bachi Burger anymore.

The restaurant opened last summer and it’s been there for 6 months on Sawtelle Blvd., just 5 minute drive away. Finally we went to check it out today.

Actually, we were planning to go to Koreatown for another power food, such as Shul Lung Tang or Samgyetang to give myself a boost and fully get over. When picking up him at his work in Santa Monica and checking GPS, what I see was all red alert on 10 freeway all the way to downtown and it suggested it would take an hour. Of course, it’s a Friday night. We instantly gave up our initial plan.

I wanted Manpuku, Japanese BBQ instead, but he didn’t feel like it. We both agree with burgers.

Oxtail Chili Cheese Fries $12
First, it made us dangerously guilty. In a second, we felt “Whatever!” OMG, it tastes so delicious. Saucy oxtail, cheese, jalapeño, egg…all components seem so important to make this special dish. Absolutely perfect with beer!

Mine: Stella 16oz $5, His: Rogue Hazelnut 22oz $8
Rogue tastes so unique with fruitiness and sweetness. It is not so bitter as it looks at all. I would enjoy a whole glass too.

Ichimi (Japanese red pepper), some kind of salt and chili paste(?) in liquid
I tried chili paste with fries. It’s kind of tasty. Not so hot.

Mine: Kiki’s Burger $13
Angus Beef, Sautéed Shiitake, Enoki & Eryngii Mushrooms, Caramelized Bacon, Sweet Onion Marmalade, Gruyere Cheese, Garlic Chili Aioli
This is so delicious! One of best burgers in my life. You could taste a lot of umami dashi from bacon, mushroom and sweet onion. I was already full and took a half home.

His: Ronin Burger $13
Angus Beef, Caramelized Onions, Japanese Cole Slaw, Miso Goma Dressing, Fried Egg, Katsu BBQ, Yuzu Citrus Aioli
This is tasty as well (had a bite). I love Yuzu Aioli.

Power Dinner

Getting sore throat again. It’s slight, but there. Mmmm, I have to stop it before getting really sick. I made myself my version of power dinner.

Raw egg for rice, kimchi & gyoza soup, Japanese condiments (takana, nozawana wasabi, menma)

I put a lot of ginger & garlic into kimchi soup. So spicy, but good! Now I feel better with my throat. I hope it will go away.
