Girls Home Party & Ramenya

A friend asked me out for lunch or dinner this weekend. I invited her home.

Let’s get a party started!

Louise d’ Estrée Brut ($8 @ Trader Joe’s) with cream cheese filled hot & sweet peppers and Fromager d’ Affinois with Truffle. I love this creamy and rich cow cheese. Available at Bristol Farms.

Shrimp & Arugula Salad with Lemon Dressing

Dressing is simply mixed of lemon juice & garlic infused olive oil. So delicious.

IMG_2489
Squid Ink Spaghetti

This is one of my favorites from the cooking class. Easy to make and so good. I made portion for 4 people but we finished it all 🙂

Happy Hour @ The Brixton

I usually pick him up at his work in Santa Monica and go home in West LA on Friday. Famous LA traffic is a huge problem. It takes forever to cross 405 FWY on a local street from West to East. All major streets such as Santa Monica, Wilshire and Olympic to home are all jammed with cars toward the freeway, and 10 FWY is even worse.

We tried a new restaurant bar in Santa Monica today to avoid the traffic. At least we would be patient for the terrible traffic with full stomach.

He found a place that offer happy hour and free parking near his work. Perfect!

Draft Beer all $5 during HH

IMG_2478
I had Coronado Wit and he had Firestone 805.

IMG_2479
Baby Kale Salad $11 ($10 for HH)

IMG_2481
Short Rib Poutine $12 ($10 for HH)

Food is nothing special. Dressing for salad is overpowering but baby kale itself was fresh and tasty. Poutine is ok to me. Short rib, potato, cheese and beer made him so happy. I still want to try some other items next time, such as tuna tartar, fried chicken & biscuit etc. The price can’t be beaten.

This place reminds me of Upper West’s happy hour. I miss the experience with nice service and food there.

As recovering from cold, I started craving beer and chips. I had felt something uncomfortable in my stomach since Monday, but couldn’t hold it.

IMG_2468
Dinner: Lettuce Fried Rice

I tried not to eat too much, but it tasted too good to hold.

Oh no! Uncomfortableness turned into pain in my stomach later the night. I drank apple cider vinegar that helped to ease it but not eliminate completely. Awww.

Carbonara & Shrimp Salad

In 2016, my new year resolution is to explore my cooking by trying new recipes. After dining out a lot of restaurants, I realize they are not always superior comparing to home cooking because no one understands your taste and wants to make your family & yourself happier more than you. You can also customize a recipe as you like once you learn how to cook it. Moreover, it feels great to fully understand what ingredients are in there.

IMG_2446
Today I felt like Carbonara.

IMG_2447
No much heavy cream left in the fridge, so added 2% milk. It turned skinny carbonara, but still tastes rich with Parmigiano-Reggiano.
