Cup Noodle sold in Japan is totally different from one sold here in US. It’s much tastier and shrimp is much bigger.

Flying Back to Los Angeles

Leaving Haneda Airport at midnight on Monday. Again, I immediately fell asleep after boarding and had 3-4 hour sleep straight. That made me feel the flight shorter and more comfortable.

Meal served a couple of hours before landing

I flew with ANA to Hanada this time. Although it was an economy seat, I was very satisfied with service, seating and meals.

Japan, February 2016 – Day 2

I got jet lag as usual and woke up around 4:30am. First I had Konbini (convenience store) breakfast at the hotel room.

I was going out for shopping as soon as 9am, but fell back to sleep again around 8:45am. It was already 11:30am when I looked at the clock on my phone. Shoot!

Ok, I got hungry. My initial plan for lunch was going to Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum a few minutes away from the hotel. Because of being behind my plans, I changed my mind and tried on the Chinese place in front of hotel. The night before, there were so many crowds waiting outside the restaurant. So it must be good. Yokohama is famous for a Chinatown too.

IMG_2857
Small entrance with authentic Chinese ambience was very appealing.

Chinese signs for the interior excited me even more.

It was mediocre. I regretted a bit that I didn’t order Miso Oyster Noodle instead.

Spending the afternoon with grandma alone. This is my main purpose for this trip.

I met my best friend and her boyfriend for dinner in Tunashima, Yokohama. She remembered that I wanted to have Horumon (various parts of beef and pork) BBQ when in Japan and they took me to their favorite place.

At this point, we had a few more drinks each including ume yuzu shu on the rock.

Annin Tofu, jellied dessert made of apricot kernel, agar, and sugar
They kept drinking but I moved on to dessert.

Since he took care of the bill, I am not sure how much the total was. I assume that it was about 5,000yen per person.

I truly enjoyed the good horumon BBQ. Thank you so much, my friends!!!

Japan, February 2016 – Day 1

Visited my grandma in Yokohama. First time for me to fly to Haneda Airport. Leaving LAX around midnight helps to sleep better on the plane and get less jet lag. Also, it expands hours spent in Japan since you arrive in Japan early morning and leave Japan at midnight. I only stayed 2 nights there, but got entire three days, which was very nice.

IMG_2827
I found a box with banana, sandwich and yakult on the table after a few hours sleep on the flight. I instantly fell asleep and don’t remember they served it. I just had yakult and went back to sleep again.

IMG_2828
I watched movie “The Intern” and had breakfast a couple hours before landing. I was so happy that it was authentic Japanese food.

IMG_2830
Arrived at Haneda Airport at 4:30am. Shuttle service to a 24 hour open spa with hot springs.

It was a great idea to take a rest at the spa. Taking a huge hot spring tub and sleeping an additional hour. Very relaxing and helping to fully get over jet lag.

IMG_2831
All you can eat breakfast at Heiwajima Onsen

2,200 yen ($20 as of Feb 2016) covers shuttle from Haneda Airport & to near train station, breakfast and spa fee. What a deal!

I stayed here for 4 hours from 6am to 10am.

I went Sushi Zanmai in Tsukiji near the biggest fish market in Japan with my parents. It was pretty good. Through their website, I found a location in Kawasaki on the way to grandma’s.
