We drove 2 hours to Dettifoss waterfall early in the morning. It was dark and raining when we arrive there. Required to hike 20 minutes on the icy trail. Because I didn’t have waterproof outfit and his back hurt, we just waited in the car for our friends to go take pictures.
We drove 30 minutes or so to the area with hot springs located.
A van was been stuck in the saved ice road. We tried to rescue them with our 4 wheel drive but couldn’t help. Finally, a huge truck came to help.
Krafla Lava Fields
Hverir, National Park
This place smells so strong like some hot springs in Japan.
Steaming volcanic vents, boiling mud and bubbling water
Got hungry. Already around 1:30pm.
Finally lunch at the gas station
I love Icelandic hot dog so much. Always ask everything on it. Ketchup, mustard, mayo, raw onion and fried onion. Crunchy and juicy sausage is so special more than anything.
We invested $8 each for some secret gears at this market. It helped us enormously later on.
Even a gas station has amazing views!
Grjótagjá, aka Jon Snow Cave from Game of Thrones
We were ready with swimsuit on but this hot spring is too hot, so we barely dipped our feet.
Here are our secret weapons. Strongly recommended in winter in Iceland.
With spikes on, it was so much easier walk around on icy ground.
We gave up to move forward once, but got to top of the view point with the secret gears.
Myvatn Nature Baths
Finally, a real hot spring to warm up
Water is so blue
