Yakiniku & Wine Dinner @ Totoraku


Our foodie friend couple wants to try Totoraku, invitation only yakiniku restaurant. My husband tries to make a reservation for them, but they don’t accept without us going together. My experience I went there last time was pretty bad, so I had a mixed feeling but I went along because it’s been about three years since then.


The friend was excited to look at the restroom wall with a lot of wine labels. I was disappointed instead that it was no update or upgrade of anything such as old table cloth and tacky dining chairs.

$190 Omakase per person. I truly feel it overpriced. Hate they add tip themselves. Hope our friends enjoyed it enough.
We don’t need to go back another 10 years or so, but promised each other to go to Providence sometime soon.

Food is good but not worth for $246 per person. Service is mediocre or worse. We asked new glasses for different wine, but they didn’t have enough glasses and brought a bowl of water instead. We washed the old glasses off ourselves. This is not expected for $200 level restaurant and 20% tip. Ahhhh! Best things for tonight are quality time with friends and delicious wines!

I drank too much, passed out as soon as home and got hangover next day…

Roussanne is one of my favorite white wines. This one is rich and well balanced.

Bun Rieu @ Saigon Dish

Today, I had some seminar attend after work, so decided to have dinner alone beforehand.

I called Huong Vi, Vietnamese Restaurant to reserve Wednesday Special, Authentic Crab Noodle Soup for dinner. However I found out that they don’t make every week any more and they plan to make it next week. Ok…I was debating between going to Huong Vi for something else and going to other place.


Then I went to other place for Bun Rieu.


This is second time to be there. Last time I tried Bun Bo Hue, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, which was good. So I tried their Crab Soup this time.


Vietnamese Porridge is appealing too.


Bun Rieu with pho noodle $7.95
Wow it looks different from one at HV. I love the more soup and a lot of fresh cabbage & bean sprouts.


There were 3-4 crab & pork balls along with Vietnamese sausage and fried tofu.


This is shrimp paste served in a tiny cup. It’s very fishy and salty.


It feels more “authentic” because its fishy smell. I find it delicious first but at the end I am missing HV one, which is enjoyable for the entire bowl.
