I made Tonkatsu with Trader Joe’s Pork Tenderloin, which is always tender and flavorful. So never failed.

Ate too much.

Girls Night @ EMC Seafood & Raw Bar

Driving to Irvine to see my girl friends
This particular location used to be Elephant Bar where I came for happy hour with co-workers after work. That brought back a lot of memories.

Initially for Happy Hour, but it became a lot more than that.

Congee with Abalone $18
One of them didn’t feel well and she needed something warm to kick off. I love abalone and it was pretty good.

I had a glass of house white, Chardonnay ($5).

Seafood Tower $118
We found each other who are shell fish lovers including clams and oysters. So why not getting the best on menu!

7 Shrimp Cocktails, Fresh Uni

2 Maine Lobsters (cull = one craw), 1/2 dozen of Oysters, Clams, Mussels

Fanny Bay, Shigoku, Kumamoto oysters
My favorite is Shigoku with round shell. Fat and milky meat.

I am not a big fan of lobster but it was good once in a while.

HH Garlic Noodle $7

HH Fried Zucchini $5

$67/person including tax & tip
It was a great deal!!

DineLA @ Umeda

I went to Melrose Avenue on Friday evening.

Parked a couple blocks away from the restaurant.

There are a couple other restaurants I want to go. Osteria Mozza and Trois Mec/Petit Trois. I approached Trois Mec to check and Chef Ludo was sitting outside. I said, hi and he said, “Merci, Madame.” It was a nice surprise.

A friend and I here for DineLA

Edo Tradition Dinner $100 + Sake Pairing $30 (for A5 Miyazaki Wagyu +$20)

They have all kinds of Japanese dishes on the menu, not only sushi but bowls, noodles, tempura, skewers etc.

1st: Seafood Cocktail, Chilled Chawanmushi (savory egg custard) with crab meat, scallop, junsai, edamame and caviar, paired with Daiginjo black label

Very refreshing and flavorful. I am grateful that they add junsai naturally cover with water jelly, which my home prefecture is famous for.

2nd: Sashimi Trio, Sesame Fluke, Daikon Oyster, Garlic Snapper, paired with Kunimare golden bird

Three ways to enjoy raw seafood. Sesame and garlic is very strong but uniquely good with sashimi. Loved floral sake.

3rd: Sushi Selection, Sea Beam, Toro, Uni, Spanish Mackerel, paired with warm Genroku 1702.

Just delicious. Full-bodied rich sake goes well with toro and uni. Good wasabi and ginger.

3 glasses of sake pairing was not enough for me.

Extra: Chilled Niigata Junmai 225ml $18
It was rich and sweet. Junmai is always my favorite.

4th: Grilled Seabass, Koji salsa, brussels sprouts, yuzu aioli

Crispy fish skin, fluffy fish meat, rich koji sauce, fresh sprouts and refreshing yuzu aioli…all combination is perfect.

5th: Wagyu Tenderloin Steak, Arima Sansho Miso, satoimo, lotus root, podded peas

This is American style Kobe version. We ordered one of each and shared.

Interestingly, American beef is tender. Wagyu is of course fatter and richer. I prefer American beef 🙂

6th: Inaniwa Chuka Soup with Tsukune

Inaniwa udon in Jidori chicken ramen soup with meatball. Very satisfying to close the dinner.

7th: Green Tea Tiramisu

Paper straw for water

Ended up for very expensive dinner $190/person including tax & tip

Spontaneously “Gyo Ra Be”

Suddenly I felt like “Gyorabe” (gyoza, ramen and beer) tonight on the way home. I was going to Eboshi, but they were closed on Wednesdays. We came here instead.

Gyoza & Beer
Gyoza with vinegar & pepper is actually good.

His: Chashu Bowl
He says it was delicious.

Mine: Shoyu Ramen
Unexpectedly, it was good too.
