Gluten Free Brunch @ Bondi Harvest

I drove to West LA to get some brake job done at my mechanic. After dropping my car, a friend came to pick me up and took me for brunch in Santa Monica.

This place is hidden from major streets but a lot of people were already lining up around 10am in Saturday morning.

Art in the restroom

Cozy and artsy feeling inside with patio seating outside

Ahi Tuna Burger sounds good.

Art on the wall are for sale.

On a hot day, we took counter seats inside instead a table outside.

Food looks great!

Hers: Acai Breakfast Bowl $8.50, Brewed $3

Mine: Sweet Squash Pancakes $11, Cold Brewed $4
Both gluten free. My pancakes taste delicious. It reminds me of Japanese Wagashi like mochi, rice cake. Doughy and sticky not fluffy comparing to regular pancakes. Interesting to have avocado with berries and syrup.

People keep coming.

Brunch @ République

A friend and I went out for brunch. We knew this place would require us to wait in a line for 30 minutes to an hour.

The line was very long and intimidating.

In 35 minutes, we finally got in front of pastry showcase.

Doughnuts and breads look good.
Another 5 minutes wait. We ordered at the counter and seat ourselves with a numbered cup.

The signature interior with long communal tables in the center

“Courtyard” dining area in the back

Wine cellar on the second floor

Smoked Salmon Tartine $14, Green Juice $8, Omelette $17, Chai Tea $4

Overall, food is pretty good. Interior is cool. I am not sure if I want to wait in a line again. Parking is hectic too.

Since yesterday, I have had too much carbs. It’s time to start low carb diet again.

Dim Sum Brunch On Easter

We were craving for dim sum and debating between Chinatown, downtown LA or Din Tai Fung, 20 miles away. Our favorite one in Chinatown shut down a long time ago and all famous Chinese restaurants are located further in East LA. Then he found a four star place on yelp just 4 miles away from home.

After 15 minutes drive, we arrived the area and easily found a parking spot. Until the restaurant opened, we walked around.

Blue Bottle Coffee

Bonsai Tree along the street

This is the dim sum place

Jasmine Tea $4

Shrimp Dumpling $6.50

Pork & Shrimp Shumai $6.25, Sauteed Pea Shoots $9.50

House Beef Chow Mein $10.95

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun $6.95

Food is fairly good and the interior is fancier as dim sum restaurant. Price is probably doubled of ones in Chinatown.

Hanging Out with OC Friends

We stayed at a hotel near John Wayne Airport last night after attending the wedding. Around 3:30am, I work up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Oh no! I drank too much and gave a boost with coffee. Now I remember I shouldn’t drink more than two glasses and definitely no coffee at night. I finally went back to sleep around 5:30am. Around 6:30am, he started waking up and waking me up too. Please! I felt so sick and tired. On the other hand, he was so ready and hungry. The hotel offered breakfast buffet, but I couldn’t eat much.

After taking a nap for a couple hours in the room, we checked out and drove to Balboa Peninsula.

At 11:30am, we got together with friends, husband & wife. I worked with him in the same team more than 10 years ago.

I wanted either PLUMS FAMOUS DUTCH BABY or RASPBERRY PANCAKES with coffee, but my body couldn’t take it. To feel better soon, I had food to detox.

This place was packed with a hundred people or more. Food is pretty good. Service was great too. It is just too noisy to talk 😦 Ambience is ok too.

I heard that a pastry chef I had an opportunity to interview has opened his own shop and discovered he’s been married with a daughter of our friends. So why not trying!?

Mont Blanc $7

Unfortunately, both of them were not there. We enjoyed tea time with wonderful cakes and chat with friends in the patio.

Ocean View Brunch In Malibu

Having brunch at an oceanside restaurant is another plan for summer. Finally, it happened on Labor Day.

Driving through PCH to Malibu

View from our table

Glass of California Sauvignon Blanc $9

Beet Salad with Goat Cheese $13

Crab Cake Egg Benedict $23.50

Food was fairly good here and the view is amazing. I was worried that we wouldn’t get a table with view, but 80% of tables are on patio open to blue ocean, which is priceless.

Brunch @ Steingarten LA

My friend was in the neighborhood and we had brunch @ one of walk distance restaurants from home.

Peach Bellini $6
They have nice outside seatings.

My choice: Steak Salad $16
I like the combination of parsley-garlic vinaigrette and Gorgonzola.

Hers: Hungarian Sausage Hash, Red Bliss Potatoes, Cipollini Onions, Fried Eggs $10
I had a bite and it tasted good, but just too much potatoes on the plate. So German.
